Ubuntu/lucid on hp2133

Tonight I wiped my hp2133 running Ubuntu/karmic and installed lucid.

The only pain was of course getting the wireless card to work. That simply meant getting the Broadcom firmware into /lib/firmware/b43

The instructutions on http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/b43 were right on. You will need to build b43-fwcutter from source pulled from the git repo, but the commands are provided.

  1. Lucid! Livin' on the edge! ;-)

I installed Karmic on my daughter's laptop and the Broadcom b43-fwcutter was the only thing I needed to do by hand as well. In our case the only side effect was that I couldn't get wireless to find a hidden SSID. That and no matter how much google'ing I did for a solution, wireless would not restart after a sleep/hibernate. If you have any tips therein, drop me an email.

  2. Collecting information on getting Lucid Lynx to run on HP 2133:

Any help appreciated - still some bugs to work out. In particular I can't get wifi to work at all right now :-(
