Pacman orgy

Pacman orgy, originally uploaded by marcn.

Curves, squiggles, and flowing lines interest the eye. Make a photograph dominated by a curvy shape of some sort today.

Get out there, take a photograph, upload it, and tweet a link to @dailyshoot with the hashtag: #ds118

Non-Paged Pool

Non-Paged Pool sign (1/3)

Originally uploaded by marcn.

A little geek humor for the day --

Instead of the usual afternoon coffee break, I walked out behind the office building and took these pictures.

Back in the late 1980s, one of Digital Equipment Corp's VAX/VMS developers planted this sign.

VMS has two types of kernel memory pools to allocate from -- paged which can be swapped out and non-paged which can not move. Clearly this pool is of the latter type. Is there any other kind?

silly email disclaimer from NH Governor's office

A coworker used the NH.gov webform to send a comment to Craig Benson, NH Governer.

Check out this disclaimer that was at the end of the response.

Any use is strictly prohibited? No printing?! Doesn't is seem a bit excessive since this is coming from a government employee?

Alien images from last night!

Some pictures I took last night around dusk.

The Alien's scout ship! (04Jul2004)

The Mothership lands! (04Jul2004)

Some unrelated images I took at the same time (04Jul2004)

Okay, so digital cameras don't do a good job catching fireworks (04Jul2004)

The best part about fireworks in Merrimack is we can see them from the
neighbor's driveway and walk 30 seconds and be home. The worst part
is always the bugs...

I've seen things, I've seen them with my eyes...

Excellent non sequitur flash to
on!

Here are the lyrics, but they don't do the song justice.

-----

I've seen things
I've seen them with my eyes
I've seen things
They're often in disguise

Like
carrots
handbags
cheese

I've seen things, I've seen them with my eyes
I've seen things, they're often in disguise

Like
carrots
handbags
cheese

toilets
russians
planets
hampsters

weddings
poets
stalin
kula lumpur

pygmies
bugies

"The system is available 24 hours a day"

I was looking at internal-only benefits-related site at work today and
found this note hilarious.

Availability

The System is available 24 hours a day except during daily backups
Monday through Friday , 11pm - 11:30pm PST and during weekly backups
Sunday 3pm - 9pm PST.

So the website is available 24 hours a day except for those 5 1/2
hours a week when it isn't available.

Adelphia's experiment with Microsoft TV

There is an excellent new show in Merrimack, NH on Adelphia channel 22:

Program D:TRMSDisplayEngine.exe

Program D:TRMSDisplayEngine.exe dialog box

It says:

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program D:TRMSDisplayEngine.exe
abnormal program termination

[OK]

It gets bonus points for the time not changing. Apparently the app crashed 10 1/2 hours ago and hasn't been noticed...

Okay, okay -- I give up. Here is why MSIE really does rule.

But I'm still going to be staying with Galeon and Mozilla running on Linux.

Unclear on that whole email thing

Last week I got some US postal mail from some relatives. It contained printouts of their AOL email and were forwarding on to me. No handwritten note, just the printouts. Yes, they know what my email address is and have even managed to send to it before.

I won't say who they are on the slim-to-nil chance that they find this website...

Positive feedback from my manager today

I had just responded to a field person about a particular Linux question with some detailed information and pointed her to a number of our external corporate pages with more relevant information. This is the 'attaboy' from my manager:

Nice, overwhelm them with URLs, that's the ticket ;-)

You shall fight besides me as we take on the masters of
the digital plantations. No longer shall we remain poverty
impoverished shareware cropping lackies.

Well done.

P.S.

Management/employee bonding lesson 42
I'm really getting the nack

I laughed for about 5 minutes.
