Getting ready for Winter Storm Stella

I've setup a webcam for folks to watch Winter Storm Stella from my house in Merrimack, NH.

There is a Raspberry Pi 3 with a picamera pointing out my front window. It is running this script:

Where AAAA-BBBB-CCCC-DDDD is my secret YouTube key.

Essentially raspivid is sending the video to ffmpeg which add a silent audio loop and then forwards the flv stream to YouTube's ingestion server.

A couple of Ron Paul supporters were outside holding signs

The only remarkable moment was during Q&A a young woman asked "I have just one question. Why are you in favor of amnesty for illegals?".

McCain: "I'm not."

woman: "I've been informed that you are."

McCain: "You have been poorly informed."

He then did go on to talk to his position on immigration -- securing the borders but also said that we should treat those here illegally well since we are all god's children.

Since he was having a town hall meeting just up the street, I stopped in to take some photos.

Of the current Republican candidates, the US could do a lot worse.

Greater Grater Woods geocache replaced

This evening Griffin, Trevor and I replaced the Greater Grater Woods (GC10QMW) geocache that some kids trashed. It was the one near the north part of the Grater Woods property near some very large rocks -- it turns out that it is about 500ft from Beebe Lane. Last winter that area seemed so far and remote, but it is very close to a number of homes.

We were going to replace the camera in the Lesser Grater Woods cache, but now that we can't just walk across the frozen water, you have to go east around the beaver pond or just approach it from the MMS side. Maybe tomorrow evening.

I brought along my camera and GPS and took a bunch of photos that you can see via Google Maps.

There is a free open source application, gpicsync, for Windows/Linux that takes the GPS track info and matches it up with the timestamp of the photos and generates a file for Google Earth to use.
