John McCain in Merrimack
McCain was in Merrimack, NH today and I took a bunch of photos at the event.
They are all licensed under the Attribution Creative Commons license.
John McCain in Merrimack, NH
John McCain @ VFW hall
A couple of Ron Paul supporters were outside holding signs
The only remarkable moment was during Q&A a young woman asked "I have just one question. Why are you in favor of amnesty for illegals?".
McCain: "I'm not."
woman: "I've been informed that you are."
McCain: "You have been poorly informed."
He then did go on to talk to his position on immigration -- securing the borders but also said that we should treat those here illegally well since we are all god's children.

HP leaving NH
Here is what the Nashua Telegraph has to say in their newsblog section: HP to close Nashua site. The news traveled fast -- their entry is dated 5:24pm today, just hours after the official announcement to employees.
Update: Wednesday full coverage in the Nashua Telegraph: HP to close Nashua site
I wonder when the new owners will take down the VMS-inspired Non-Paged Pool sign.

MoveOn.org event: Meet the Generals
Retired Generals Robert Gard and Brigadier General John Johns are coming to Manchester on Thursday and they're going to speak out against President Bush's reckless policy in Iraq. This is a great opportunity to see these generals powerfully indict the current war plan—and talk about how we can responsibly exit. Former Maine Congressman Tom Andrews is hosting a town hall meeting with them to talk about what New Hampshire can do to help end the war and they need your help to drive the discussion.
We didn't stay for all the Q&A, but Marty ?? make a comment that if Kucinich got a respectable 20% or more showing in NH's primary, that it would have a huge impact on the political discussion of the three front runners.

USB to Serial Adapter for Ubuntu
All I needed to change is the serial port to use, so:
gpsbabel -t -i garmin -f /dev/ttyS0 -o kml,points=0,line_color=ff0000ff -F waypoints.kml
gpsbabel -t -i garmin -f /dev/ttyS0 -o gpx -F waypoints.gpx
becomes:
gpsbabel -t -i garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o kml,points=0,line_color=ff0000ff -F waypoints.kml
gpsbabel -t -i garmin -f /dev/ttyUSB0 -o gpx -F waypoints.gpx
FWIW, it uses the pl2303 kernel module.

Greater Grater Woods geocache replaced
We were going to replace the camera in the Lesser Grater Woods cache, but now that we can't just walk across the frozen water, you have to go east around the beaver pond or just approach it from the MMS side. Maybe tomorrow evening.
I brought along my camera and GPS and took a bunch of photos that you can see via Google Maps.
Either click here to see it on Google's maps.google.com site.
(Click on some of the photo icons)
Or if you have the Google Earth (free for Windows/Mac/Linux) application installed, click here and it should run on your PC (and faster, more features).
There is a free open source application, gpicsync, for Windows/Linux that takes the GPS track info and matches it up with the timestamp of the photos and generates a file for Google Earth to use.
